About New York City Yoga & Ayurveda
New York City Yoga & Ayurveda is a private wellness practice dedicated to bringing authentic Ayurvedic medicine and classical yoga to modern city life.
Founded by John Zullinger, Ayurvedic Doctor and Hatha Raja Yoga Teacher, the practice integrates traditional healing sciences with practical therapeutic care for clients navigating the demands of life in New York City.
John has been teaching yoga and practicing Ayurveda for over seven years, combining classical training with hands-on therapeutic work designed to restore balance, resilience, and vitality.
Unlike many wellness centers where treatments are performed by technicians or spa therapists, clients here work directly with an Ayurvedic doctor throughout the healing process.
This continuity of care allows for more precise and individualized treatment.
Begin with an Ayurvedic Consultation
For most clients, the first step is an Ayurvedic consultation where we evaluate constitution, digestion, lifestyle patterns, and health history in order to determine the most appropriate therapeutic approach.
Ayurvedic Lineage
John’s Ayurvedic education includes study under Dr. Bharat Vaidya, whose family lineage of Ayurvedic physicians spans seven generations.
Dr. Vaidya descends from the lineage of Vaidya Prabhuram Jivanram, who was honored with the title Ayurved Uddharak (“Reviver of Ayurveda”) at a Vedic conference in New Delhi in 1876.
In 1896, his family established the Prabhuram Ayurvedic Vidyalaya in Bombay, one of the earliest institutions dedicated to the education of Ayurvedic doctors.
Through this lineage, John’s training reflects a tradition that combines classical Ayurvedic medicine, clinical practice, and the preservation of authentic teachings.
Panchakarma Training
John’s Panchakarma training was guided by Wahnetta Trotter of Satmya Ayurveda, a highly respected Panchakarma specialist and educator with decades of clinical experience.
Wahnetta’s work is known for preserving the integrity of classical Ayurvedic purification therapies while skillfully adapting them for modern Western clients. Her teaching emphasizes individualized treatment, deep therapeutic care, and the thoughtful application of traditional Ayurvedic medicine within contemporary life.
Under her mentorship, John developed extensive experience in classical Panchakarma therapies and the therapeutic use of Ayurvedic treatments designed to restore balance to the body, nervous system, and mind.
Yoga Lineage
John’s yoga training began at the Houston Yoga & Ayurveda Ashram under Sharon Kapp, who trained directly under B.K.S. Iyengar in Pune, India.
This lineage emphasizes precision in posture, disciplined breathwork, and the integration of yoga as a complete path of physical, mental, and spiritual development.
John’s teaching reflects the classical principles of Hatha Raja Yoga, combining alignment, breath, meditation, and traditional yogic philosophy.
